Maine

A couple of weekends ago I took my youngest daughter to Maine for a homecoming dance. There is a boy that she's known for a while from back home that she has kept in touch with through the magic of a not so favorite of mine website known as my space. I thought it would be a wonderful oppurtunity for her, especially since we homeschool and in our area homeschoolers don't do prom as they do in the Atlanta area. We had so much fun picking out her dress and shoes and hairstyle and all that goes along with going to a dance. She was beaming as she anticipated this event. So we left Florida and flew into the rainy, foggy Maine weather. I wasn't looking forward to Maine, I have to be honest. I've not been there since I was 3 mos. old. I was born there because my bio. father was in the Air Force when I was born. I was expecting cold weather. What I found was changing leaves, the perfect temperature, a beautiful coastline with crashing waves and fall mums and honestly, I could have stayed a while longer. I left thinking I was born in a great state. The history, the quaintness, the lack of traffic and the kind people were enough in just that short time for me to leave the tiniest piece of my heart there. And you know if you can get one of us southern belles to love some yankies, you must be very special. I wish I'd had time to visit the place where Harriet Beacher Stowe stayed and so many other wonderful historical buildings. Our hosts were gracious, my daughter's date even hugged me at the airport and thanked me for going through all of this to bring her to Maine.

She looked absolutely beautiful and had such a wonderful time. How sweet young love is. I know its and experience she'll cherish forever.
I wish I'd gotten some pictures of the falling leaves, but it was raining and the pictures didn't turn out well. The light house photo is of the Portland Head Light light house. It was beautiful even in the fog and rain.

The trip home was another story. They had flight cancellations from the day before and we missed the only flight out of Maine so we had to take a bus to Boston and fly out from there, we made it to Atlanta but missed our flight by one seat and had to spend the night in Atlanta. But we did get to see the skyline of Boston and some beautiful scenery along the bus ride and I had a brief reunion with family who graciously picked us up at the airport. All in all it was a great trip, for me, for my daughter I think it was pure bliss. But I think even that would still be so for her even if we'd gone to Siberia.

What a wonderful mum you are~your daughter will treasure this trip forever.

Maine is a beautiful place and holds a very special place in my heart. My family summered in Kennebunkport for decades. Some family members loved it so much, they've moved there year 'round. A couple of weekends out of the year is perfect for me!:)

Glad your home safe and sound.

I think Maine is such a beautiful state, I miss being able to take a drive up there for their quaint inns, great shopping, fresh air and just quiet. :)
